Udupi, Jun 22: Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha on Tuesday, June 22 directed the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials to ensure safe and free traffic movement is achieved with the completion of the service road work near Balaipade Junction, as several accidents are reported there.
He was speaking in a meeting at the DC office hall on the construction of the service road near Balaipade Junction.
"There is a high density of traffic, because of the absence of service road from Udupi to Balaipade and to Udyavara. The vehicles use the wrong route to enter National Highway, which leads to accidents. So, the construction work of service road along this road needs to begin soon," DC said.
He also asked the NH officials to complete pending works at Karavali Junction, Katapadi, Ambagilu-Santhekatte.
DC also directed the officials to complete the pending road works in Shastri Circle, Kundapur, SMS College in Brahmavar, Mahesh Hospital and Barkur which were stalled due to the rain.
He also directed the concerned to take measures to repair the defunct street lights which are causing road accidents on National Highway. "Complete the Padubidri service road work by end of this month," the DC told the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials.
DC also asked the police department to identify new accident-prone areas and mark them as accident black spots and hand over the report to the National Highway officials. He further advised to hold a joint survey and take precautionary measures to avoid untoward incidents.
Additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu, additional SP Kumar Chandra, Kundapur assistant commissioner, K Raju, NHAI project director, Shishumohan, Arun and others were present.
