Bengaluru, Jun 22: The state government gave its nod to enhance the amount of emergency relief fund from the existing Rs 500 crore to Rs 2,500 crore.

This decision was taken at the meeting of the state ministry held Monday June 21. The ministry met at Vidhana Soudha under the presidentship of chief minister (CM) B S Yediyurappa. Home minister Basavaraj Bommai, giving the above information, said that the enhancement of Karnataka Emergency Relief Fund from Rs 500 crore to Rs 2,500 crore would be given effect by way of amendment to Karnataka Emergency Relief Fund Act by way of an ordinance. He said that the amount of the fund was increased with the purpose of spending the amount in the coming days in connection with Covid19.

During the last year, the state government had enhanced the fund from the previous Rs 80 crore to Rs 500 crore. Increasing the fund will help the government to extend help to those facing financial distress.

During the last week, the CM had announced a relief package for the poor. He had also announced relief amounts to ASHA workers, auto drivers, cab drivers, farmers, construction workers etc. He also had announced to pay compensation of one lac rupees to BPL families if the person who financially sustains the family dies due to Covid19 infection.
