Puttur, Jun 22: Narayana Naik from Enmoor village in Kadaba taluk was convicted and sentenced by the fifth additional district and sessions court here which also happens to be the special court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act cases, on Monday May 21. He was facing the charge of trying to rape his minor daughter.
Judge of the court, Rudolph Pereira, imposed five years of rigorous imprisonment, and fine of Rs 25,000 on Naik after finding him guilty of the charges. If he fails to pay a fine, he will have to undergo one year's additional simple imprisonment. Naik has also been handed down four months simple imprisonment and one thousand rupees fine for using abusive words against his wife. If he fails to pay this fine, he will have to undergo a month's additional imprisonment. For assault, he has got four months simple imprisonment and fine of Rs 500.
The prosecution was represented by POCSO special court public prosecutor, Kudriya Pushparaj Adyantaya.
The accused Narayan Naik had tried to rape his daughter at Enmoor, Kadaba taluk, on May 24, 2015. When his wife tried to stop him, he had assaulted her and posed death threats to her. Case under POCSO Act was registered in this connection in Subrahmanya police station.
