Mangaluru: Smart City work - Chaos likely in traffic movement after unlock

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jun 19: Many roads are dug throughout the city in order to make way for Smart City project related works during the lockdown period. The work is still in progress. If the lockdown is withdrawn there is a huge possibility that the city will face traffic chaos.

The main roads that will get affected are M G Road, Bunts Hostel, RTO office and GHS road. There will be heavy vehicle congestion on these roads as they are the important roads that connect to various other junctions. During lockdown, only one way traffic is allowed in the city.

Most of the roads in the city do not have the drainage system for the rain water to flow. It is a common scene near Ambedkar Circle, K S Rao Road and Rao & Rao Circle to get clogged with water with little rain. In front of the Bejai KSRTC bus stand, rain water creates a pond. Pedestrians face inconvenience to walk at this place. These issues have been prevailing for many years and the public is waiting for the city corporation to do something about them.

Most of the roads where the Smart City work is going on are having piles of mud, sand and asphalt on the side of the road which blocks nearly half of the road. In Car Street, rain water has entered many shops and houses during the recent rains.

Mayor Premanand Shetty, however, says, “Most of the Smart City related works that are going on in the city are on the verge of getting completed. Care will be taken to ensure smooth flow of traffic. This time around water clogging will be less as drainage and footpaths are constructed in most of the main roads.”

Periodic lockdown extension is blessing on disguise to smart city work. Most of present scenario is rework..cutting.concrete. they manage the billing based on work..rework.. half done.. etc. Most iconic undernpass is coming up at clock tower. Someone told.me it is connected directly to clock tower neath by boat. 6 crore is too less for this international acclaimed under pass of smart city mangalore..

Smart City or fools city project? No road widening, no path over bridge, no flyover simply pasting concrete upon concrete to benefit few contractors. No proper bus station even.

Every where in the city they have made a mess of work which is not done in a proper manner. Till they set the work perfectly, the Corona virus will not come to below 5%. Administration is waiting to finish the work otherwise there will be a traffic problems in the city. Complete the work in a proper manner, administration will open the roads, and Corona virus will end.

In Mangalore under the pretext of smart City works roads lanes cross roads are dug up everywhere making the life of citizens miserable. What happened to DKannada DCs oreder issued in the first week of June that no digging of of any kind be taken up in mangalore City from June to September end. Is there no sanctity for such orders. Now why DC has maintained silence? Let him implement that order or withdraw it.

Completing roads with concrete doesn't create a smooth flow of traffic.... roads are to be constructed to facilitate the flow.... very importantly creating a turning lane/merging lane... so that the traffic flowing straight will move without restrictions..... vehicles/drivers need to follow the lane discipline and the traffic rules.... proper road signage and to make drivers aware of them.... need of drainage is a must as India is a country of heavy rain every year.... smartness and people with brains need to be included when you plan for smart city.... take idea's from other well planned cities.... specially Singapore, China , Norway etc...

Kankannady opposite the market, the erstwhile Central Market area. The lockdown is withdrawn on Monday (21/06/2021) the longest day of the year, there will long queues on the roads due the traffic jam. No planning only people trying to make money by looting tax payers money.
