Mangaluru, Jun 19: “The positivity rate of Covid cases in the district has not increased, but it is fluctuating since a week. Earlier, we used to conduct 3,000 to 4,000 RT-PCR tests which is now increased,” said deputy commissioner (DC) Dr K V Rajendra.
He was speaking after flagging off the vaccination vehicle at Mangalore University campus on Saturday June 19, meant for door-to-door vaccination for disabled and elderly, in collaboration with Dakshina Kannada district administration, Indian Red Cross, Rotary Club Mangaluru, and Bank of Baroda.
He said, “People need not panic regarding the increase in positivity rate. Over 11,000 RT-PCR tests were done on Friday which showed high positivity rate. Last week, it was 18% which has come down to 9% this week.
“The district administration along with Red Cross are vaccinating KSRTC and private bus drivers and conductors on priority basis. The district Red Cross has been conducting vaccination drives smoothly. NRI vaccination drive was also conducted. More number of vaccines will be available from Monday and will plan accordingly to vaccinate the beneficiaries.
“The vehicle which is meant for door-to-door vaccination will help in the vaccination of the elderly and disabled who are unable to come out of their house. They should register themselves.
“The public’s cooperation is must for unlock or relaxing the lockdown. In order to control the pandemic, people should follow Covid protocols such as wearing masks, maintaining social distance and staying safe. Regard unlock, a meeting will be held held with chief minister B S Yediyurappa through video conference on June 19 at 12 noon.
MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty, DGM Bank of Baroda Gayathri, district Red Cross president Shantharam Shetty and others were present.
