Kundpaur, Jun 19: The electric cable passing from near Srikrishna Ice Cream parlour on the national highway 66 at Tekkatte had snapped and fallen on the ground. With the presence of mind exhibited by Raghavendra Poojary, a newspaper distributor, a catastrophe in the making was stopped.
The incident happened on Friday June 18 morning. When he was delivering newspapers to the residences of customers, Poojary noticed that the power cable had snapped and fallen to the ground in front of the gate leading to the house of a senior citizen, T R Prabhu. As it was dark, he flashed his torchlight at the residence of Prabhu and attracted his attention to the lurking danger. Thereafter, Prabhu called Mescom and asked them to switch off power to the area.
During the works in connection with the four-laning of the national highway 66, most of the electric cables have been replaced but the one which snapped now has not been replaced. The cable hangs in a loop very close to the ground. Even though the department was informed about it, it failed to do the needful, locals said, who demanded to replace the old cables with the new ones without further delay.
