Bengaluru, Jun 18: Law and parliamentary affairs, as well as home minister Basavaraj Bommai, has asserted that Karnataka has not violated any norms but is firmly committed to doing everything possible to protect the interests of the state.

"There will not be any compromise on protecting the interests of the state whether in the border dispute or inter-state water sharing issues,’’ he said.

Speaking to reporters in Vidhana Soudha on Friday, he said the state government is determined to protect the interests of Karnataka be it in respect of Mekedatu or Mahadayi water dispute.

Bommai said the counsel for Karnataka has effectively argued the case on behalf of the state government in the suo motu inquiry ordered by the National Green Tribunal in Chennai.

Karnataka had challenged the unilateral decision of the Tribunal on the basis of a media report and the state’s counsel has presented the submissions on behalf of the government.

"We have not flouted any orders or committed any violation. We are confident that our stand will be upheld,’’ he said.

Earlier, in the morning, he participated in the camp for the distribution of food kits organized by housing minister C Somanna in his assembly constituency of Govindaraja Nagar.

Apart from minister Somanna, his son Dr Arun Somanna, BJP leader Vishwanath Gowda and others participated in the function.
