Mangaluru: Synthetic drugs racket - Hubballi youth arrested

Mangaluru, Jun 18: Relating to the synthetic drugs trafficking racket unearthed in the city recently, the city police have taken into custody Umesh (22) from Hubballi. They are searching for the other accused.

During his questioning, the accused said he is a second year student of hotel management course at Manipal. Kankanady police had recently arrested Mohammad Ajinas (25) and recovered synthetic drug valued at Rs 16.8 lac from him. He had revealed that he was sending drugs to his two accomplices by registered parcel.

The police who closely followed the link, found that he was sending the parcel of drugs to an accomplice from Hubballi. On the basis of information gathered, they arrested Umesh.

During the Covid period, the drug peddlers resorted to sending registered parcels though private parcels. The youth who got registered parcels at home then negotiated with others through their contacts to sell the drug in Goa, Maharashtra, etc.

The accused has since been handed over to the Kadri police.
