As weekend curfew nears, unusual rush witnessed in Udupi city

Udupi, Jun 18: The district administration has passed orders, imposing weekend curfew from 7 pm today to 5 am on Monday.

In the light of the night curfew ahead, the town is witnessing an increased activity. People in large numbers visited the city to buy essentials. From early morning on Friday, there has been an abnormal increase in the movement of the people and vehicles.

During the tenure of the night curfew, only essential services will be available. Movement of people without valid reason is barred. There is possibility of stringent checking at the check posts.

Shops dealing in vegetables and grocery items will function from 6 am to 2 pm. People can come out of their houses only under compelling reasons to avail essential services. Purchase of medicines and essentials will be allowed. Hotels can only give away parcels.

The deputy commissioner of the district has ordered strict implementation of the weekend curfew. Marriages that were fixed earlier can be held, and vehicles carrying essential goods can undertake trips. Only five people will be allowed to attend the funerals. All other industries factories will remain closed for two days.

Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha, said that he has asked the police to ensure stringent checks relating to movement of vehicles and people.
