Mangaluru: Police arrest thief who stole 53 gms jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lac

Mangaluru, Jun 17: Kadri police have arrested a 45-year-old man accused of stealing jewellery from the bag of a woman who was travelling in a vehicle from Bhadravati in Shivamogga to Mangaluru on March 10. Police have recovered 53 grams of jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lac from the accused. The victim is identified as Vasantha who resides near Navabharath Circle, Mangaluru.

The accused is identified as P Jnanarathnam Kripa Rao, son of late Kripa Rao, a native of Paper town, Bhadravati and resident at 148/A township, Dandeli rural, Uttara Kannada district. 

The accused who was absconding from Dandeli had pledged the gold at Manappuram Finance, Dandeli, Muthoot Finance and Manappuram Finance at Hubballi and IIFL Finance, Bhadravati. 

The operation was conducted under the leadership of M P A Hegde, assistant police commissioner, Mangaluru East police inspector Savithra Theja PD, PSI crime Jagannath K, ASI Santhosh Padil, staff, Umesh Kothari, Girish Jogi, Raghavendra and Nagaraj on directions from Hariram Shankar DCP (law and order) and guidance from city police commissioner Shashi Kumar.
