Bengaluru, Jun 15: Work from home and online class concepts are good. But because of the internet connectivity problems, they do not work well for many. Lot of students and techies who work from home are frustrated at not being able to get good internet connectivity.

A native of Varamballi in Hosanagar, Shivamogga district, has not been able to establish an internet connection. Therefore she carries her laptop, a light chair and table for a km away where she creates a temporary tent and works there. She says that nowhere else in her village internet connection is available.

She says that she leaves her home at 9.15 am and arrives at the agricultural field by 9.30 am. Six days in a week she keeps doing it. She works for a private company in Bengaluru, and had returned to her village in March last year when the first corona wave spread terror. She says that she has been facing this problem since then.

Initially she used to visit her uncle's residence at Hosanagar eight km away. Thereafter, she began to go to the residence of her elder brother five km away. After lockdown 2 was announced, she rues, she is unable to go anywhere else.

"When I was passing by this field, I suddenly got signal in my mobile. Thereafter, I thought this place is good for my work. From then I have been working by pitching temporary tent. With monsoon season, a new problem has arisen. My colleagues are extending me good cooperation but I cannot misuse the same,” she confesses.

Another graduate student, says that letters had been written to the offices of the Prime Minister and the chief minister about this problem in 2017. He says that they were asked to instruct officials to attend to the problem, and rues that the situation has not improved. He said that people in villages on Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border in Chamarajanagar district too are facing similar problems.

Another BPO employee, says that he gets only 2G network in the village. He says that to get 3G network one has to go by motorbike till Nala Road. Because of this problem, some have started to work there by hiring rooms, be explains.

    Poor connectivity is not only a problem of interior areas. Nowadays leading cities also face this problem. In Mangaluru, there are many places nearby, where none of the operators among jio, airtel, vi gives good connectivity. During its beginning days jio had good speeds, but now it is not such a speedy network.
