Mangaluru, Jun 15: Monsoon has gained in intensity in coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada as well as Malnad districts. The meteorological department has issued red alert for coastal districts on June 15 and 16 and orange alert on June 17, indicating very heavy rainfall.
The rains which started to pound Karnataka coast continued on Monday. Strong wind which accompanied the rain inflicted damage at many places. Rivers in the coastal districts are in full flow. Low-lying areas including those situated in the city were inundated due to artificial floods.

Water level has risen in almost all the rivers. The water level rose in Triveni Sangam in Kodagui.
The department said that north and south interior Karnataka districts are expected to get widespread rain till June 17. Orange alert has been issued for Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Belagavi, Dharwad and Haveri districts till June 17. The fishermen have been advised not to enter the sea till June 17 as wind with a velocity of from 45 km to 55 km per hour is expected to blow in coastal areas.
