Udupi, Jun 14: Political party workers of BJP and Congress were in for a surprise when the former and the present MLA of Udupi met for a breakfast on Monday, June 14.
Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat and former MLA of the district, Pramodh Madhwaraj met for a breakfast at Madhwaraj's residence. The visit was unexpected as both of them had recently engaged in a verbal spat over the unpaid salaries of the Government Mother & Child Hospital in the city. Bhat in a press meet had also said that the problem was created due to the irresponsible actions of the Congress leader during his tenure.
But on Monday both the former classmates had a very friendly breakfast. Madhwaraj also participated in the inaugural programme of the project of cultivating the barren land by Bhat held at Ammunje fields.
Madhwaraj inaugurated the project and stated that it was a good idea to initiate such a non-political project. "This project deals with cultivation on the barren land. This will also help the landowners. Let all those involved in the project reap the benefits."
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Bhat said, “This is a non-political project. A Trust has been created for this project and as an MLA of the Udupi constituency, I will be the president. I had set up Yaksha Shikshana Trust during my tenure last time. It was continued by Madhwaraj during his tenure as well. Due to the cultivation of lands, water bodies will also rejuvenate. Even Madhwaraj who lives in close proximity can benefit from this."
Madhwaraj and Bhat also planted the paddy in the fields.
Even though the meeting of two leaders might be a friendly gesture, party workers have already criticised this act on social media.
