Udupi, Jun 14: The central government has given its approval for construing an overpass in Katapady, said Udupi Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje.
The people of the constituency had been demanding for years that the National Highway 66, which runs through the district, needs an underpass in the Katapady area of ??the Kapu assembly constituency.
As per the request of the people in the constituency, the central government has given policy approval to build an 'overpass' instead of an underpass in Katapady. Udupi Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje stated that the project would be helpful to residents of Katapady, Bantakal, Shirva, and Belman areas of the Kapu constituency.
The BJP MP met the union minister of state for transport several times and was convinced that an underpass/overpass was necessary to cross NH 66 due to the high traffic. Now the National Highway Authority has approved the construction of the overpass.
An extensive project report is being prepared by the National Highway Authority, with full details of the project available next month.
The overpass construction will be constructed at the cost of Rs 22.72 crore. MP Shobha Karandlaje thanked the union road transport minister, Nitin Gadkari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving approval to the project.
