Mangaluru, Jun 14: During the lockdown period, fraudsters indulged in cyber-crimes and siphoned off their funds. The cyber police have found that employees working from home were also fleeced, and a racket of fake soldiers is also active.
In the past, people had introduced themselves as soldiers in social websites, borrowed money online and then cheated the senders. Later, some persons who introduced themselves as soldiers claimed to sell some items, collected money by sending QR codes and then cheated the people. During the lockdown, similar trick was played on employees and others including IT employees working from home.
Remote access apps are sent in the name of linking SIM verification, debit and credit card authentication, Google pay, Phone Pe etc. These apps look like the anydesk teamweaver etc. These apps supply to their masters all information relating to mobile banking. There are cases in which OTP is collected from the would-be victim directly.
Cyber police here say that the people concerned introduce themselves as soldiers to gain sympathy of the people.
Cyber technology expert, Dr Ananth Prabhu G, advices customers not to press any links received in the name of verification of card, mobile SIM etc. He advises people to type the link separately and try to open it and not to provide any information without confirming about the genuineness of the concerned. He said it is better to save the customer care number available in the official website.
