Mangaluru, Jun 13: With a view to curb coronavirus cases in rural areas, 17 gram panchayats in the district will be completely sealed down from 9 am on Monday June 14 to 9 am on June 21.
This was announced by deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V here on Sunday June 13.
A decision to seal down gram panchayats with more than 50 active Covid cases was taken on the basis of a report from zilla panchayat chief executive officer (CEO).
The gram panchayats which will be sealed down for the next one week are Konaje and Neermarga in Mangaluru, Naravi in Beltangady, Koyyur, Mithabagilu, Malady, Neria, Laila, Ujire, Charmadi, Ivarnadu in Sullia, Amara Mudkur, Kollamagaru, Guthigar, Aranthod, Subrahmanya in Kadaba taluk and Savanur.
Certain restrictions have been imposed on movement of people in these gram panchayat limits. Nursing homes, clinics, labs, telemedicine and blood banks can remain open. Similarly, KMF milk booths and petrol bunks near state and national highways can also function.
Vehicles for emergency medical and other urgent needs are permitted. Village squads will work to provide essentials to people.
"It was necessary to take a difficult decision to contain the virus. Villagers should cooperate," requested district panchayat CEO Dr Kumar.
