Kundapur, June 13: An inscription dating back to the rule of Vijayanagar dynasty has been found while ploughing the fields at Beetada Halli, Tarikere taluk, Chikkamagalur district.
Ha Ma Rajashekar here said that the inscription was during the rule of Harihara Maharaya of Sangama dynasty which came to rule in 1401.
The inscription in 21 lines about donation written on black stone is 3.6 inches high and 1.6 inches wide. The inscription that is about 620 years old is damaged and the words are broken.
It is said that at the time, local leader Mallaya Nayak of Manneya, Maradi Gowda and citizens donated the yard on the boundary of Mardi Gowda's field. The purpose of the donation is not mentioned on the inscription. It is said that a curse involving killing of parents of whoever grabs the donated land was attached to the inscription.
The inscription was written by Machoja, son of Singojana as mentioned on the inscription, said Rajashekar. The researchers said that the inscription is being studied further.
