Mangaluru, Jun 12: District administration of Dakshina Kannada has decided to implement strict measures to bring down the positivity rate of Covid by completely locking down villages and areas where the number of infected people are more and also sealing down the houses of the infected people.
A meeting in this connection was held at the auditorium of the DC office. The meeting was chaired by district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.
Giving instructions to the concerned, Poojary said, “The infection rate in the district is not reduced as expected. All stringent measures should be put in place in order to bring the infection rate down. Covid tests need to be increased.”
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “Though the Covid infection is more in the district, people are running around without any fear. If people become aware and follow Covid guidelines it is possible to bring the positivity rate down.”
Deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Rajendra K V said, “If any of the restrictions that are in place right now are relaxed it will be difficult to bring the infection rate under control. Action is initiated to provide necessary equipment, lab technicians and vehicles to primary health care centers.”
CEO of zilla panchayat Dr Kumar said, “The homes of those who are under home isolation are being sealed down. Panchayat representatives of some villages are coming forward voluntarily and asking us to completely seal down their villages.”
MLAs Dr Y Bharath Shetty, Umanath Kotian, Rajesh Naik, mayor Premananda Shetty, Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner Akshi Sridhar, SP Hrishikesh Sonawane, additional deputy commissioner Prajna Ammembala, DCP Hariram Shankar, assistant commissioner Madan Mohan and district health officer Dr Kishore were present.
Giving instructions Poojary further, “Complete lockdown needs to be implemented in areas of villages and towns which have high rate of infection and Covid guidelines should be strictly implemented. Houses of infected people should be locked down. If more than five cases of infection are recorded, then those areas have to be declared as containment zones.”
In 40 villages of the district and town areas of Ullal, Someshwar, Kotekar and Beltangady, the rate of infection is more. These areas will be completely lockdown. This information was provided by DC.
