Mangaluru, Jun 11: The district Congress unit staged a protest against the union government over the rising fuel prices with a tag line '100 not out' here at KPT petrol pump on Friday June 11.

A cake cutting ceremony was held by Congress at the protest venue.

District Congress president, Harish Kumar said, "Petrol price has hit the common man hard by touching the record breaking Rs 100 mark. A common man will end up paying Rs 25,000 a year for one litre of petrol that he fills in his car tank. On the other hand, Covid has affected people. The petrol price has been increasing on a daily basis. This protest '100 not out' will go on for the next five days in all constituencies, gram panchayats and taluk panchayats and petrol pumps."

Former MLC Ivan D'Souza said, “The government is not paying heed to the citizens’ woes. They have given their voters the gift of petrol costing Rs 100. All BJP leaders are silent on this matter. During the time of the UPA government, when petrol price was increased from Rs 60 to Rs 70, BJP leaders were seen protesting on roads. We demand the government to roll back the hike in fuel prices. The protest will continue for the next five days."

Former MLA Ramanath Rai said, "The common man is in deep trouble with the rise in fuel prices. When the UPA government was in power, it cost $140 per barrel of crude oil and even then the price of petrol did not cross Rs 70. All the citizens and opposition parties should join together and raise voice so that fuel price is brought down. The price decline will help the common people during the pandemic. If the fuel price is reduced, it will automatically reduce the price of other commodities."

Former district Youth Congress president, Mithun Rai said, "This protest is for the common public not for ‘Andh Bhakts’ who claim to vote for Modi even if petrol reaches Rs 200."

Former MLA J R Lobo, Mohiuddin Bava, Shakuntala Shetty, Congress leaders AC Vinayaraj, Sadashiv Ullal, Appi, Shabeer, Subodh Alva, Prathibha Kulai, Vivek Raj Poojary, PV Mohan, TK Sudhir and others were present.

The grand old party, must be woken up, from slumber, especially so in the turbulent waters of Punjab, Rajashtan !! Moreover still no signs of protests in Mumbai, as Petrol prices have crossed Rs 102•04 per litre !!

Good Initiative from Congress party, they are in opposition must rise genuine reason and voice of people. It would be better if they follow covid rules such as safe distancing and using proper masks and face shield to be protect themselves and others. Fuel price is being predicted to increase in near future from dollar 70 to 100, it would be better people of India pressurize present government to reduce taxes on the fuels to bring prices under control or to find other alternative way to get fuel in cheaper prices. Indian government should invest more to find our own petrol resources in Indian territory , besides that having partnership with African or other oil resourcing countries such as Iran, Venezuela, etc to have cheaper fuel resources. India need to have strategic partner for cruide oil supply and should decrease taxes on that to bring it affordable price.

People of this country now wish that Dr. Manmohan Singh is our prime minister again. When he demited the office he said Modi as Prime Minister is a disaster for the country. He also said History will be kinder to him than the media. Today what all he told is coming true. We have elected a Prime Minister who has no clue about the economy. It's time now for us to suffer for the acts of a few who voted blindly

The Government earns 69% of the fuel price as tax. The more the price, the more is the revenue for the Government. If the voters do not understand this logic, the price will keep rising.

When it's in a downward slope because of this it can go upward. Even in Bangalore shambles are going on. Show the public you care for them and not only about petrol

There should not be politics when matters involves every a common man who is suffering from the fuel rise or any such other cases. Unity in the diversity is the Best solution not a selfish show like this. This is a weak show to address on such a cause great magnitude fuel price rising continuously during this pandemic
