Mangaluru, Jun 11: The meteorological department has predicted atmospheric pressure to drop over the Bay of Bengal on June 11. As a result, it said, the state might receive heavy rainfall from June 12 onward.
On Thursday, June 10, the coastal belt of Karnataka experienced widespread rainfall. Some interior districts too reported rains. Many of the coastal villages and towns received an average of 4 cms of rain whereas Shirali in Uttara Kannada got 8 cm of rainfall, said the director of the department, C S Patil.
The department expects widespread rainfall in Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada districts from June 11 to 14. It has sounded yellow alert from June 12 to 14 as heavy rain is expected.
Some districts in the north and south interior Karnataka have been predicted to get rainfall. Particularly on June 13 and 14, all the areas are likely to get good rains. Heavy rainfall is expected in Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan districts apart from Kodagu. These areas have been issued orange alert from June 12 to 14. Bengaluru is also likely to get rainfall for the next two days, he stated.
As per the report issued by the department, the monsoon rainfall average this year will be 101 per cent of the normal rains. Therefore, agricultural activities are expected to get a boost.
