Mangaluru, Jun 9: A meeting over the measures to contain the spread of Covid infection was held in the corporation limits on Wednesday, June 9. The mayor of the city, commissioner, nodal officers, doctors of the primary health centre and health department medical officers were part of the discussion, with the mayor presiding over the meeting.
"There are 1,226 active cases in the corporation limits at present. Two wards are found to have more than 50 cases each. About 17% of infected persons are reported in the corporation limits. As it is inevitable to reduce their number, it is decided to ramp up testing and identify the primary contacts of the infected especially in areas where the cases are highest.
"Identify primary contacts and subject them to mandatory tests," the mayor said. For this purpose, he also directed the setting up of a separate telephone number and start a ‘Call for Test’ operation in the next two days.
"Ensure that the people compulsorily observe Covid guidelines. 121 violations were found on June 9 and Rs 61,150 was collected in fine. The trade licence of seven shops has been temporarily suspended."
"Six teams have been formed to test samples of throat swabs. The teams will be provided training and will be put on the field soon," said Dr Ashok, district Covid nodal officer.
When the mayor asked for details of vaccination programmes, Dr Sanjay Bhandary, the taluk health officer said, "People who register online and priority groups are being vaccinated as per the directions from the district administration in a systematic manner."
