Mangaluru, Jun 9: During the last some weeks, black fungus cases had grown rapidly reaching the 57 mark in the Dakshina Kannada district. As no new black fungus cases have been registered in the district from the last some days, the officials and the people are a little relieved.
As per the information provided by the district health department, so far, a total of 57 black fungus cases have been reported. Currently, there are 50 active cases receiving treatment in hospitals. Only 11 among them belong to Dakshina Kannada district and the balance 39 have come here from other districts and got admitted into hospitals here. Seven have died, of which two were from the district and five from other districts, the officials have said.
District health officer, Dr Kishore Kumar, said that the general feeling that black fungus cases are high when the Covid infection is widespread, is not right. He said that these two are different, and even when Covid cases are more, black fungus cases can be less. Noting that only a handful of people develop this disease, he asked the people not to panic on this issue.
