Udupi, Jun 9: Staffs of Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Mother & Child Hospital went on a flash strike on Wednesday June 9, demanding pending salaries of three months to be paid.
The staffs claimed that they were not paid salaries since three months now. More than 200 staffs stopped work. The staffs did not attend their duties and gathered at the hospital reception area.
The miffed staff also claimed that they are not being given provident fund facility from October 2020.
The patients who had come for check-up and other treatment, faced difficulty due to the sudden strike by staffs.
The hospital administration undertook discussion with its staffs. The staffs were later convinced to work.
Regarding the protest, district Surgeon Dr Madhusudan Nayak said, “We have managed to convince the staffs now. In this crucial time, it is not right to hold protest. When we think from the staffs' point of view, they have not received salaries from the past three months. The Labour department officer has issued a notice under Labour Act. We have asked report from the hospital management and staff today. We will send the same to the district administration. We also promised the staffs that we will arrange some amount of salary under NHM and ABRK. We will try to fix the problem at government level once we get the report from the hospital management.”
