Mangaluru, Junk 9: In an effort to bring down positivity rate and worried about the high prevalence of coronavirus infection, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada district had announced tightening of rules.

The city corporation officials, in tune with the instructions, undertook an operation against those vendors and traders who were found to be conducting business in violation of COVID19 guidelines on Wednesday June 9 morning. The officials went from Ladyhill to Kulur via Urwa Store. Those found violating the rules were fined, and in case of serious offences, licences were suspended.

The officials are acting against those who violate rules relating to sale of essentials only in the morning, dispensing of parcels only by the hotels, sticking to social distance, wearing of marks and other rules.

It may be recalled, under instructions from the DC to tighten measures meant to reduce coronavirus infection, the police and other officials on Tuesday June 8 enforced rules strictly.

The police along with city corporation officials conducted joint operations. Vehicles were subjected to scrutiny from early morning hours. After the hours meant to facilitate the citizens to buy essentials expired, the police tightened their checks further. Checks were stringent both at the check posts on the major roads and interior roads. City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, deputy commissioner of police Hariram Shankar, assistant commissioner of police (traffic) Nataraj and other senior officers got themselves busy with the checking work.

The city corporation officials in the meantime took action against shops which violated coronavirus guidelines and lockdown rules.
