Bantwal, Jun 8: In an incident which happened in front of Brahmashree Narayanaguru circle at B C Road here on the evening of Tuesday June 8, fire was ignited in one of the wheels of a tanker that was carrying fuel to Bengaluru. As there were worries about the possibility of the incident turning into a major catastrophe, apprehension was in the air for some time.

The incident happened at about 4.30 pm. Fire brigade was sounded and its personnel arrived soon and doused the flames before it could inflict any major damage.

The tanker was carrying fuel to Bengaluru from Baikampady Mangaluru. It is said   that friction caused by the jamming of the wheel of the vehicle caused the fire. As the driver noticed the problem and stopped the vehicle immediately, a major tragedy was averted.

Why the LPG tanker lorry was not carrying Portable Fire Extinguisher? Monthly Inspections — Every propane facility must verify that fire extinguishers are intact and fully charged each month. ... Annual Inspection — Once a year, all units must be inspected by a fire inspection company or the fire department. These agencies will affix a special tag to the extinguisher, showing the test date.

Good major disaster averted. But is the driver trained to perform basic fire fighting? is advisable for fuel tankers to go under this training. So that they know what to do during a fire incident. At least to know how to use a fire extinguisher
