Bantwal, Jun 8: In an incident which happened in front of Brahmashree Narayanaguru circle at B C Road here on the evening of Tuesday June 8, fire was ignited in one of the wheels of a tanker that was carrying fuel to Bengaluru. As there were worries about the possibility of the incident turning into a major catastrophe, apprehension was in the air for some time.
The incident happened at about 4.30 pm. Fire brigade was sounded and its personnel arrived soon and doused the flames before it could inflict any major damage.
The tanker was carrying fuel to Bengaluru from Baikampady Mangaluru. It is said that friction caused by the jamming of the wheel of the vehicle caused the fire. As the driver noticed the problem and stopped the vehicle immediately, a major tragedy was averted.
Bantwal town police station sub-inspector Avinash was present at the scene.
