Udupi: Assistant director of tourism department succumbs to Covid

Udupi, Jun 7: Somashekhar Banavasi, assistant director of tourism department of the district died due to Covid on Monday June 7 at a hospital in Mangaluru.

Somashekhar was a native of Banavasi of Uttara Kannada district but was living in Dakshina Kannada village along with his family. He is survived by wife, two daughters and a son.

Banavasi assumed the office of the assistant director in November 2020. He had worked a lot in order to get Blue Flag international recognition for Padubidri beach.

He was first grade assistant in the department and later got promoted. Before joining the tourism department, he worked as a journalist.

Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha also condoled the death of the officer.
