Jun 6: DK records 609 new corona cases, Udupi 494; seven deaths in twin districts

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 6: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday June 6 reported 609 new coronavirus cases and five deaths, while Udupi reported 494 fresh cases and two deaths.

As per the district health bulletin, a total of 8,71,018 samples have been tested so far, out of which 7,90,951 have turned out to be negative.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 80,080, out of which 7,550 are currently active.


As many as 862 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 71,580.

The district recorded five deaths due to coronavirus on Sunday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 950, out of which two are non-Covid deaths.

With cases steadily increasing, the district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 72,43,617 as fine in 61,585 incidents of mask violation.


Udupi

As per the district health bulletin, as many as 6,13,248 samples have been tested so far.

As many as 494 new cases were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 62,285, out of which 4,321 are currently active.

A total of 494 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 57,620.

Out of 494 new patients, 484 are in home isolation while 10 are in Covid-designated hospitals.

Among the 494, as many as 417 are asymptomatic.

While Udupi taluk reported 123 of the 494 cases, Kundapur recorded 191, Karkala 178, and two from outside the district.

Coronavirus has claimed 344 lives in the district so far, including two on Sunday. The two persons who died on Sunday were both men from Udupi, and one of them was aged 38.

Till now, 2,70,224 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 86,762 have received the second dose.

A total of 17 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the distrinct so far, including one on Sunday. Out of these, 10 are currently active.
