Bengaluru, Jun 5: Deputy Chief Minister and State Covid Task Force Chief Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said there was no need to be alarmed at the cases of black fungus infection among Covid patients in Karnataka as the State Government is purchasing and supplying necessary medicines for treatment in all district government hospitals in the State.
He was speaking to reporters after distributing the purchases of food grains and vegetables from the farmers to Asha workers and other Covid frontline warriors at Ghati Subramanya in Doddaballapur in Bengaluru Rural district. He also handed over 2 ambulances and oxygen concentrators donated by the Mahatma Gandhi Trust to the local hospitals.
The State Government has issued orders for purchase of Rs 40 crore worth of medicines for the treatment of black fungus infection and the supply has already started from Friday itself, Dr Narayan said.
He mentioned that Lyposomal Amphotecerine B medicine is in short supply. But Union Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has already promised to supply the necessary quantities of medicines, he said.
In addition, the State Government has placed orders for purchase of 1 lakh vials of Emulsion Amphotecerine B as an alrernative at a cost of Rs 30 crore. The government is also purchasing Amphotecerine Plain, Dr Narayan said.
The Deputy Chief Minister pointed out that the State had 800 reported cases and another 700 were suspected cases. As the government is purchasing huge quantities of medicines, there is no need to worry or be anxious about the black fungus infections, he said assuring that all efforts will be made for ensuring treatment of the infected persons.
Dr Narayan said all the 4 taluk hospitals in Bengaluru Rural district will be upgraded.
While the Doddaballapur hospital in the district already had 100 beds available, the Nelamangala hospital has 30 and Devanahalli and Hoskote have 30 to 40 beds. All these hospitals will be upgraded to at least 100 bed capacity along with separate oxygen generators. Steps will be taken to ensure that the hospitals were equipped with ICU beds and oxygen generators, he said.
