Mangaluru, Jun 5: During the difficult times of Covid19 pandemic that has taken the whole country under its clutches a youth leader in the city is helping scores of people who are in difficulty. He is none other than Vivek Raj Poojary, chairman and CEO of Panama Corporation Limited, who is getting popular as ‘Sonu Sood of Mangaluru’.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, June 5, Vivek said, “So far I have provided food for 16,000 people and given grocery kits to 4,350 poor families and daily wage labourers. In addition, I have paid the hospital bills of many poor families on behalf of my company. At present, one kit given by us will last for 15 days for a family. This will be helpful for many families.”

In addition, Vivek Raj has helped 14,000 people by providing them food and food kits to 2,000 people. In addition, he has provided vegetables and huge umbrellas for 12 hawkers. Many people have got financial help to go to their native places also.

Condemning the steps taken by the state government to control the coronavirus pandemic, Vivek Raj said, “Arrangements done by the state government during the lock down of second wave have failed utterly. Timings are given for public to buy essentials only from 6 am to 10 am. In addition, vehicles cannot be used while going to buy the items. When people walk for three to four km to buy essentials and return back to their homes it will be noon. Labourers do not have facility for transport. The hike in diesel and petrol prices have further deteriorated the situation.

“The government has totally neglected the public this time. Banks are open till 2 pm. But public are not allowed to go out after 10 am. This has created more issues to the general public. These lock down rules have not benefitted even the industrialists who pay tax to the government.

“I have seen many farmers discarding their crops on streets in several districts of the state as there is no one to buy their produce. In future, our company will buy the vegetables and fruits grown by these farmers. It will take a long time before life returns to normalcy for commoners. That is why I have earmarked Rs 50 lac as a precautionary measure to help families that are in distress. In addition, I have made plans at an estimated cost of Rs 75 crore to buy the agricultural produce of our farmers,” he said.

Razak was present in the press conference.
