Karkala: Son ignores critically ill mother, rescued by social worker

Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (MS)

Karkala, Jun 5: In a heartless act, a son did not take his 85-year-old mother, who had received grievous injuries to her head, for medical treatment. A social worker came to the rescue of the elderly woman and got her admitted to the government hospital of the taluk.

Yashoda (85) was lying in the outer verandah of a house near Ashoknagar Anganwadi at Kuntalpadi in the taluk having injuries on the head since two days. Her own son had neglected her and did not take her for treatment in spite of her repeated requests. Social worker Ramitha Shailendra, who had been to the house to distribute grocery kit, noticed the hapless elderly woman lying on the outer verandah of the house and got her admitted to the government hospital of Karkala with the help of son. In addition, Ramitha also provided clothes to the elderly lady.

Sheena Acharya, husband of the elderly lady had died five years ago. After his death, Yashoda was living with her son. On inquiry, the elderly woman said that she is ill-treated by son and daughter-in-law and they had inflicted injuries on her head with wooden log. However, son of the elderly woman clarified that she is mentally unsound and got injured when she fell two days ago and she did not admit her to hospital as the injury was not of severe nature.

A case of assault on mother is registered against the son at the rural police station.

Veto to RSRB Mangalore,Simply without knowing the facts you should not tell such things ,that in European and America children dont take care of Parents.First of all ,children as well as Parents too dont want to live together ,to avoid conflicts .In India now more people are in home for the aged than in western countries. We do have the health insurance which we pay during our working times compulory.even to get treated in old age homes.suppose you dont want stay home.suppose children have to work or stay far away ,they have family ,cant look after .Suppose children want to look after them at home ,not go to work, insurance gives allowances.work place is secure.suppose u want work later. But less money.People themselves want to be themselves not to disturb children. Here in this case son must have feared not take mother hospital fearing about Police because of her head injuries.A case should be filed for neglecting mother to treat and injuring her .Very pitiable. They must have waited for her death to get house or land.?

Such people don't deserve a kit put together from our taxes. Stop all government facilities, including the ration and BPL card.

RSRB, I do not want to disagree with you, but we have to see the reality. I lived in Canada on two times for about 6 months each.. There, I found children after marriage, live in a separate house and the parents live in their own house. In India, 90% of senior citizens have zero bank balance. There, every senior person gets around 2500 dollars monthly and those who contributed income tax are getting much more depending upon the amount of income tax paid in life time. When they are in their own house, having a big bank balance and govt pension, most of the seniors like to live separately. If any spouse dies, they can ask the govt to send a nurse daily to see whether the senior is okay. My one relative, a nurse, does such duty going to about 25 homes daily to check whether the senior is okay. After that, they can opt for old age home which looks after the people very well. The children frequently visit their parents and those seniors want to live with children, many take care of parents to live together. Everywhere in the world, parents love their children and children love their parents.
