Congress begins to free vaccination for 1 lac in Karnataka

Davangere (Karnataka), Jun 4 (IANS): The Congress' Karnataka unit on Friday launched a mass free vaccination drive to inoculate about 1 lac people across the state.

State President D.K. Shivakumar took the first jab at the drive launched in Davangere, a party statement said.

Senior Congress leader and former minister Shamanur Shivashankarappa, 89, has placed an order to procure vaccines worth Rs 4 crore to inoculate people in his Davangere South Assembly constituency.

"Shivashankarappa's gesture shows the party and its leaders are committed to vaccinate people of the state and protect them from the Covid pandemic," said Shivakumar.

Though the party has urged the state government to allow it to procure vaccines worth Rs 100 crore to inoculate as many people free, it is yet to get an official response.

"We have received about 10,000 doses to first vaccinate people in Davangere. The drive will be carried out in other parts of the state on getting about 50,000 doses of Covishield vaccine by next week," said Shivakumar.

The party has set up a vaccination centre at Durgamma Mariamma temple at Davangere for inoculating people irrespective of their party affiliation.

"I urge everyone to take the vaccine to defeat coronavirus," Shivakumar said, blaming the ruling BJP for the vaccine shortage in the state, as its government preferred to export the life-saving drug than protect people.

Congress leaders, including former minister S.S. Mallikarju, Working Presidents Eshar Khandre and Saleem Ahmed, and legislators were also present at the event.

If the government wants money let them charge but supply vaccine to all people. Don't make vaccine center spread covid19 center because of gathering. Door to door vaccination may be stated instead of false publication. Government should try save people

So you will procure the free vaccines from the Center or a Center allotted bodies and then give it free for people. Its as good as going to some Govt hospitals. Nobody would buy this joke. Just a political gimmick to garner some sympathy.

Come on! its obvious, Damage control tactics after calling it Modi vaccine and BJP vaccine, now the Congress intends to give it free. When the cases are on the decline and vaccines are available free in all centers and for cash at pvt clinics, who would want to take it free from Congress. At the end of the day, the center has to sanction the 'free vaccines' these guys are harping about. First try to earn respect and faith from your constituencies where you have been booted out from,

What an irony. All these stunts wont work to revive. Free vaccines are already available at all Govt hospitals . I got mine today after a long wait. Meanwhile if you want it done in 30-45 mins, you can pay Rs 800/-. Thats what I opted for my elderly at home. So who are you giving it free. At the end , the center has to sanction.

People were hesitant to take COVID vaccine before April-21, doses used to get wasted due to less recipients, fear among people !!!! These cunning opposition parties created such fear amongst the people, called it BJP wala vaccine, will sterilise you, people are going to die of side effects !!! See now after the surge of second wave, even 45+ are not getting the jabs !!! When you hold an official figure of 140 crore population on record, it is next to impossible to vaccinate people overnight, wait and be patient till you turn comes, population exploitation is the mother of all problems in our country !!! population control policy is need of the hour !!!

Why this is in Davanagere is because its a charity program by Shamanur Shivashankarappa, old party veteran. Please note this NOTHING to do with CONgress, they've only hijacked the old mans family charitable trust program!

Congress has to do it as the damage is already done by naming it Modi or RSS vaccine and creating so much of confusion in the innocent people's mind. Now people are scared and angry against the party, still lot of 45+ people now struggling to get their first dose when all hospitals were empty waiting for people to get vaccinated before the 2nd wave.

Unpreparedness of 2nd wave by the centre caused so much chaos and loss of lives in country. 85% people dont take Congress seriously, if they say the truth also. so why you are making fools of yourselves. Whatever Congress says 85% of people will do opposite only.

Ruling govt should learn that its important to have proper plan than just doing publicity that vaccinations are available without any problem. There is so much confusion over availability of vaccine that I am fed up searching for vaccine on that Cowin website. It almost feels like a gamble now. Immature and bad planning is the reason for this. Its not as easy as organising a Kumbh mela or a Hapazard Election rally the Govt should remember..
