Mangaluru, Jun 4: Coastal Karnataka began to get good rainfall even before the monsoon winds entered the state. Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts received torrential rainfall beginning on Thursday June 3 night. The rain has continued even on Friday.

Dark clouds have covered the sky and the rain has been consistently drenching the coast with varying intensity now and then. On Thursday night, there had been thunder and lightning for some time. The meteorological department said that there are signs of the rainy season foraying into the area soon. The officials have predicted the southwest monsoon winds to enter coastal Karnataka on Saturday.

Because of heavy rains, low-lying areas in several parts of the districts are covered by water. As usual, water imitated canals and flowed on the roads in the city. As vehicles on the road are less in numbers on account of lockdown, it has not created too much of a problem till now.

For Friday, a yellow alert has been issued, warning the people about the possibility of heavy rainfall.

N S Shetty, surathkal, That's my question too. Even shopkeepers who used to sell such items have no answer. I was told it does not come under essential items.

At a time when life has become a burden timely arrival of monsoon is the pleasent news. When jobs in the cities are scarse mother nature is the only hope for a living. Happy to know that so many people are back to doing agriculture on which our ancestors survived. Let's hope monsoon will be good this year and nature will reward with bumper yield for those who toil.
