Karkala, Jun 3: An elderly couple ended their lives by consuming poison at Havaldar Bettu in the taluk.
The deceased couple is identified as K P Anantha Prabhu (84) and K P Padma Prabhu (82). They fell ill after consuming poison at their residence on May 31. The couple were admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for higher treatment. But they succumbed on June 1. Anantha Prabhu died on the morning of June 1 while his wife Padma Prabhu breathed her last at noon.
Anantha Prabhu was an employee of Canara Bank. After resigning from his position in the bank, he used to run a crockery shop in the city. It is learnt that his wife Padma Prabhu’s health was deteriorating, which caused the couple to take this extreme step.
The couple are survived by two sons, including a son who is serving as a colonel in the Indian Army.
