Mangalore, Aug 23: The Librarians' Day was celebrated by the Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu Librarian Association, Udupi in association with SDM College Of Business Management at SDM College here on Friday August 21.
Dr Devaraj K, the director of the college in his message lauded the contribution made by the great teacher and librarian Dr S R Ranganathan in the field of Library Science and stressed the need to motivate students and children by the teachers and parents and the librarians in the present e-world scenario. He also said books are the best companion when one feels lonely and the child that develops the habit of reading will have bright future.
Dr Vishala B K, secretary and the librarian of St Agnes College, Mangalore highlighted the significance of the day and appreciated response received by the students for the competition.
Essay and elocution competitions were conducted for school children in and around Mangalore. More than 60 students from 25 schools had participated in the competition. SDM College lecturers Renutakshi, Trishanth Kumar, Gowri Shenoy and Mumatha Pai were the judges.
Santhosh Kumar, librarian of SDM Law College welcomed the gathering and compered the programme. Jeevandhar, librarian of SDM College proposed the vote of thanks.
