Mangaluru, Jun 2: A voluntary organization, Sarvajanika Hitarakshana Samiti, has urged the people of four gram panchayats located in Gurpur-Kaikamba area to observe total lockdown voluntarily from June 3 to 7.
Members of the committee, Sudarshan and Sampath, who are members of Kandavara gram panchayat, and also the members of the said committee, noted that Covid19 positive cases in Gurpur-Kaikamba area has been constantly on the increase and that deaths have also been happening regularly. "We can exercise grip on the Covid19 only if we close down all the shops and establishments for five days and observe total lockdown," they stressed.

The Samiti has already undertaken visits to Gurpur, Kandavara, Ganjimath and Paduperara gram panchayat offices to seek support of the officials for the voluntary total lockdown. They said that they have received good response from the officials. The committee said that except for the distribution of newspapers and milk, all other activities will stay frozen for the above period in these four gram panchayat limits.
Kandavara church priest Fr Antony Lobo, and Gurpur range Madrassa administrative committee president Haji Naushad, said that they are convinced about the need for total lockdown in order to control the coronavirus infection. Committee office bearer and Hindu Jagran Vedike district Sakpark Pramukh, Harish Matti, said that the people too have been enthusiastic about the lockdown plan as they too agree that total lockdown is the only way the infection can be tackled.
