Mysuru, Jun 1: A man bicycled for 280 kms to bring medicines for his sick son. For him, the distance did not pose a challenge as he was determined to help his son.
Anand (45), resident of Ganiganakoppalu village in T Narasipur taluk in the district went to National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) Bengaluru by bicycle to bring medicine for his son.
Anand is a mason by profession. His son, Chetan, has psychological disorders. He was being treated in NIMHANS. Anand had to visit NIMHANS every month to collect medicines. The medicine got exhausted, and because of lockdown, it was not possible for him to travel to Bengaluru by public transport. The family was reportedly told by the doctor that if the medicine is missed once, it will have to be continued for an additional period of 18 years. Therefore, Anand went to Bengaluru on his bicycle. He said he had requested many people to bring medicines for his son, but no one helped him. He therefore went to Bengaluru on May 23 via Bannur, Malavalli and Kanakapura by bicycle.
Anand who was devastated by hunger during the journey took rest at a temple in Kanakapura for some time. He reached Banashankari at 10 pm where the locals helped him by providing a place to stay and food.
He went to NIMHANS the next morning. The doctor who came to know that he had covered so much distance by bicycle offered him Rs 1,000, Anand said.
