Mangaluru, Jun 1: After completing its trial run, ‘Localwood’, coastal Karnataka’s premier OTT platform, is all set for its first ever commercial release. Konkani movie 'Benddkar', directed by Harry Fernandes, will be available on the said platform on June 10.
‘Benddkar’ saw its theatre release in November 2019 and received great appreciation from the viewers for its storyline and visualization.
“‘Benddkar’ has already been premiered in Dubai, Goa, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar and has received positive response. The movie is also dubbed in Goan Konkani dialect and our team had plans of releasing it in Europe, United States, Australia and Goan theatres. But due to the Covid-19 restrictions and lockdown imposed on these countries, the producers of the movie were compelled to the drop the release dates like other production houses. But after a long wait, the makers decided to release the movie on ‘Localwood’ OTT platform.
“As per current situation, another year is required for the theatres to function fully. So we adopted the advanced technology like OTT platform for releasing our movie to reach the audience directly. Majority of the audience is familiar with OTT platforms these days and large numbers of movies are being released on them. Without any effort, the audience can access movies sitting in their homes only. So we decided to release ‘Benddkar’ on ‘Localwood’ which is a trending OTT platform among the audience originating in coastal Karnataka. It is a golden opportunity for Konkani movie lovers around the globe to get a class movie at their fingertips for a minimal ticket price,” says a production team member of ‘Benddkar’.
‘Benddkar’ means brass band artist. As the brass band music form is diminishing, it is necessary to revive this music form. With that theme in mind, 'Benddkar' Konkani movie was made.
Prince Jacob, Varsha Usgaonkar, Manogna, John D’Silva, Kevin D Mello, Naisa Lotlikar, Sunitha Menezes, Deepak Paladka, Joseph Mathais and others are playing prominent roles in the movie. ‘Benddkar’ is directed by Harry Fernandes, who has directed movies in Marathi and Bhojpuri languages also.
So far, Harry Fernandes has directed four Konkani movies. He has directed ‘Noshibacho Khel’, ‘Sophiya’, ‘Zanvoy No 1’ and now ‘Benddkar’. Music is composed by Patson Periera, lyrics by Wilson Kateel and Shafeeq Sheik has handled cinematography. The movie is produced by Harry Fernandes, Prince Jacob, Dolphy Rebello and Stany Alvares.
‘Localwood’ app is available for IOS and android users and desktop users on any browsers. Within a few weeks, ‘Localwood’ will be also available on Amazon stick, Android TV, Jio Fibre and many other platforms worldwide.
