'Vaccine scam': Bengaluru activist issued notice for releasing audio clip against BJP MLA

Bengaluru, Jun 1 (IANS): Less than two days after L.A. Ravi Subramanya, an MLA belonging to the ruling BJP in Karnataka, landed in a 'vaccine selling' scam, the Bengaluru police on Monday issued a notice to social activist H.M. Venkatesh, who had released a purported audio clip of a telephonic conversation between him and the staff of city-based AV Hospital to bring to light the alleged scam.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Division), Harish Pandey, told reporters that Venkatesh was summoned by the Girinagar police after the AV Hospital lodged a complaint against him, adding that Venkatesh did not appear in person but responded through an email.

Subramanya had courted controversy on Saturday after the puported telephonic conversation between Venkatesh and the hospital staff went viral, in which the MLAs name figured more than once, allegedly asking for a commission of Rs 900 to administer Covid vaccine to people.

Subramanya is the uncle of BJP MP from Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya. His Assembly constituency Basavanagudi is part of the parliamentary constituency represented by Surya.

In the purported audio clip, the hospital staff could be heard telling Venkatesh that the vaccine cost of Rs 900 has to be remitted to Subramanaya's office and only after that inoculation will be done at the AV Hospital.

In the purported conversation, the staff member claiming to be working at the AV hospital is asked why the vaccine costs so much. To which, the hospital staff curtly says that those who want free vaccines can go the vaccine centres run by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Pandey said that Venkatesh is yet to lodge his complaint with the police, but the AV Hospital has filed a complaint in the matter on the basis of which the police have served him the notice.

The whole episode of tapping the telephone conversation is an ameature act. First of all the rate fixed by government for vaccine is Rs 600 andv800 for covisheild and Covaxine. Private hospital naturally have to charge at least Rs200 extra to meet their incidental cost. When the bribe of Rs 900 whichis said to be given to the MLA was Rs900, do any people with common sense belive the allegation when bribe exceeds the income. IT W

This is not the first time that the so-called activist H.M. Venkatesh has done pranks, fake audios and tried to blackmail. His stunt appears to be to irresponsibly malign and seek publicity. The audio is a recorded conversation among two people, not even the MLA! If proven as a false charge, it is high time, the police punish or ruthlessly discipline these crooks and get some sanity in society.

Good at least FIR has been lodged now is the time for the activist to provide the evidence to the police and nail the hospital and the MLA who are involved in this inhuman act. Stringent action should be taken against the hospital authorities and the MLA if they are found guilty.

Desmond it takes guts to lodge a FIR, when you are convinced there a crime committed and you have proof of it you file an FIR, otherwise you give press conferences and level alleges and ask others to file an FIR. The same thing was done by AAP, and many others, but when defamation cases were filed against them they apologized.

If for argument if we agree with NARADA scam. how can that correct the current corruption in the government. don't you sense that it is as like mass murder of the people, One needs to have ethics. When you blame innocent people for bed scam only the reason for those human beings are Muslim and blatantly you call whether they are recruited for Madrasa. don't you think it is shameful and crime. Now it is his responsibility again to call out some more names.
