Mangaluru, May 31: It is now possible to book tickets at Mangaluru Central for the Bengaluru city train leaving here at 8 pm, till 7.30 pm.

The entire ticket booking system at Mangaluru central and other stations on the Bengaluru route has been modified to allow the current ticket reservation system to be modified from May 28. This has become handy for the passengers of the district.

When the Unlock 1 started after the first lockdown, the Kannur-Mangaluru-Bengaluru city train (06516) used to move between Mangaluru central and Bengaluru city but not to Kannur. The train used to start at 8 pm and it was possible to book the current tickets till 7.30 pm by filling in forms at the station.

After the train was extended to Kannur on April 10, people of Dakshina Kannada were robbed of the chance to book ticket till half an hour before the scheduled departure. Tickets could be booked only 30 minutes prior to the time the train started from Kannur. The train used to leave Kannur at 4.40 pm and in Mangaluru, tickets could be booked only till 4.10 pm.

The Karavali Railway Yatri Sangha took up the matter with the railway divisional manager at Palakkad. From Friday, the railway changed the system and allowed booking of tickets till 7.30 pm here. The train reaches Bengaluru city at 6.50 am.

The Karavali Railway Yatri Sangha said that on many occasions, government officials, company officials etc decide on travel at the last minute and curtailing of booking time had created a problem for them. The Sangha said that it took up with the Palakkad division, which responded quickly to restore the facility of reservation as in the past.
