Mangaluru, May 31: Fire broke out at a shop dealing in batteries near the overbridge at Thokottu on Monday May 31.

The exact reason for the fire accident yet be ascertained. The shop, Golden Electricals, belongs to Bharath from Kumpala. Bharath, had opened the shop in the morning, and lit lamp at the altar before shutting it down again. The incident came to light when the locals saw thick smoke billowing from the shop.

Though the locals made attempts to douse the fire by pouring water after breaking open the shop, they could not bring the fire under control. A group of youth then brought a water tanker and tried dousing the fire.

The Fire and Emergency Services were informed. But by the time they could reached the spot from Mangaluru to Thokottu, the locals managed to douse the fire.

It is said that several materials in the shop were gutted. Ullal police rushed to the spot to control the crowd.

It's high time the government has to start fire station in thokottu. The local people kindly put pressure on the government. Lot of multistoried flats and commercial building s are there and it's going to multiply. Don't wait for loss of life and then act.

I don't want to make fun of those people but if the fire is caused by electricity, you shouldn't pour water on it. Its like pouring oil on a burning flame.

Why there is no fire service station in Ullal/ Thokkotto area ? Local MLA and MP should try and have one station there . It is very important.
