Let us hold mass vaccination programme: Congress to Karnataka government

Hubballi, May 31 (IANS): Stressing that inoculation was the only way to protect people from Covid, Congress' Karnataka President D.K. Shivakumar on Sunday sought the state government's permission to allow his party to take up a mass vaccination drive.

"We have asked the state government to permit our party to procure anti-Covid vaccines worth Rs 100 crore for undertaking mass vaccination across the state to protect the people," Shivakumar told reporters at Hubballi.

The Congress plans to mobilise Rs 100 crore from its lawmakers, members and cadres for buying vaccines directly from pharma companies and organising free camps to vaccinate as many people as it can.

"I have directed our MLAs and MPs to contribute from their local area development scheme funds, as the party's state unit is ready to give Rs 10 crore for procuring vaccines," Shivakumar said.

Accusing the state's BJP government for failing to procure enough vaccines to inoculate more citizens, he said the caseload would have been reduced during the pandemic's second wave if more vaccines had been mobilised by the state much earlier on its own, instead of depending on the Centre.

As part of the party's contribution to contain the virus spread, Shivakumar flagged off 14 ambulances equipped with oxygen concentrators to rush Covid patients to hospitals in northwest Karnataka.

"We have also donated about 10,000 kits for treating Covid patients under home quarantine in Hubballi-Dharwad district, which has witnessed a spurt in positive cases," he said.

He urged the people to get vaccinated at the earliest to develop immunity against coronavirus, adding that that vaccination has reduced Covid cases and deaths in many countries like Israel, the UK and the US.

AD, This comment would become too long, if I write about statutory laws and rights, natural rights of man, about democracy and mobocracy; so I’ll leave them out for now. Please read "Rights of Man" - Thomas Paine. Bring in a law passed in Parliament that all citizens should be vaccinated against COVID and I may obey it, if it is reasonable and not arbitrary. You must remember that I still live on planet Earth and I am as likely to die of COVID as anybody else has a chance of dying of it. Yet, I say what I say. Anyway, I respect your opinion. SARs-CoV2 has become the new God and all the false propaganda about it has become the new unquestionable “religion”. That is why Science is not a religion because it is always evolving based on currently known verifiable facts. To not allow those who are not COVID vaccinated would be correct if they were walking-talking “mass killers”. There is no reason, logic or rationale to support that thinking. Man has not done that even for TB nor for SARs-CoV 1 which was far worse than its present cousin. It used to be done for Leprosy but civilized man now considers that a human rights violation. It seems that you have been frightened to death by false propaganda and tabloid journalism about COVID. Please see the other side of the story from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WS953NNws3E Dr Mike Yeadon (Former Pfizer Vice President) May 17, 2021 7m40s- 8m46s: don’t be frightened of this virus, the govt. spent a year trying to terrify you, it’s a fairly middling virus, its not ebola- .......... Or Dr.Srinivas Kakkilaya, Youtube or Facebook – there is no need for fear or panic.

Please speak for yourself . You can get yourself vaccinated with a mass of vaccines. I don't care. Do not force any vaccine down my throat. I will choose when , why, whether, how and with what I wish to get vaccinated, if I want to get vaccinated. I shall decide whom to trust and whom not to trust. I shall decide which information to trust and which not to trust. We are still a democracy. The Taliban have still not taken over. I would recommend to those who wish to participate in these "sarvajanik" vaccination programmes to firstly fully well understand that nothing comes free and that anything that comes “free” must have some hidden agenda behind it. Only Nature can give things free, man cannot give anything free. Insist on being shown a sealed container of the vaccines, batch number and all other details and only then get vaccinated with the vaccines contained in the same containers and printed with the same details as those with which the big-time politician or administrator gets vaccinated with. All the big-time politicians and administrators should be lined up and vaccinated in full public view in a fully transparent manner. A random member from the "sarvajanik" gathering should randomly pick up a vial from the container and the big-time politician or administrator should be administered their vaccination only from this random vial. This should be done for all the boxes that will be used. This will ensure complete safety to all the sarvajanik gathering.

We should not forget the massive tirade by the opportunist netas, who roundly denounced and called it a " BJP vaccine " others claimed it would cause impotency !! These louts, insulted our scientists and technocrats for creating this vaccine, within a shortest period of time... The propaganda unleashed, had the effects... few dared to come forward to get inoculated.. Today these shameless characters have changed colors like a true chameleon !!!

What DK Shi does not understand is mass immunization is a wonder that was created several decades ago and getting it to work successfully was also another wonder. It is an elaborate exercise and only Government machinery can handle that and not some political party with deep pockets filled with ill gotten money. Congress being in power over the years should know this very well. DK Shi is also clearly missing the point. The reason we are not able to rapidly immunize people is because we have a billion population and only 2 vaccine manufacturers. Those sitting in the fence either do not have the manufacturing capability or are not able to meet the demand and in case of Pfizer, wants zero accountability. So, at best, it would be a good idea to deposit the Rs. 100 Cr sitting idle (if it exists) in Congress coffers to Government treasury and help Government to focus on its job rather than distract it with ill gotten money that cannot buy vaccines which is in short supply. Most importantly, DK Shi may also give a elaborate list of contributors and their source of income that together makes up 100 Cr.

Yes dear Raju, that's the problem. When Congress is trying to teach this govt, they are not ready to learn. Their ego is much bigger than their head. And thats why they have failed miserably in handling the covid situation. You see thats why you still can get vaccines in a private hospital if you can pay 900 bucks but not in a govt hospital. Because they didnt heed to the congress govt, they failed in demonetization. Can you imagine the losses incurred for printing lousy 2k notes which has been withdrawn from circulation. They dint heed congress when Rahul Gandhi told them to be prepared for the 2nd wave. And look at what happened in UP. There was a video viral, where a covid patients body was being thrown into a river from a bridge. If they listened to the congress, they wouldnt be in a position to hide facts from the public. They didnt have to lie about the number of deaths though ut our country. If they listened to the congress, they wouldnt be in a position to bear when the likes of Ramdev gave statements like, noone can arrest me. And if you and me listened to the congress, we wouldnt be in this mess. So stop talking about the 70 years and please let us talk about these past 7 years.

Where from he is going to get the vaccines? Limited domestic producers are over booked. Available vaccines are gobbled up by private players. There is no free float available in international market too. Afraid that the rate race for vaccine would not end up in supply of spurious vaccines.
