Mangalore, Aug 21: Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat president, K Santosh Kumar Bhandary, urged the officials to overlook minor violations in rules and regulations, while helping the talented children from the socially and financially backward communities in getting educated.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 95th birth anniversary celebrations of former state Chief Minister, D Devaraj Urs, at a programme organized at the taluk panchayat auditorium here, under the joint aegis of the taluk panchayat and backward classes and minorities welfare department on Friday August 20.
Hailing Urs for being the harbinger of progress for the neglected sections of the society, he said he has been largely influenced by the ideals cherished by the late Urs. He wanted the teachers to evince interest to provide facilities to the children from backward classes by utilizing grants available under various schemes being implemented by the social welfare department, backward classes corporation etc.
Jayanti, who retired after working as cook at the BCM Hostel for 32 years, was felicitated at the programme. Students, who scored high marks in different examinations, were honoured. Prizes to winners of the essay contest, and cheques to three beneficiaries were distributed.
Taluk panchayat president, Ramachandra Kumpala, vice president, Sriyala J Hegde, social justice standing committee president, Ramesh Poojary, and several other officials were present. Taluk panchayat executive officer, Vishwanath Poojary, welcomed. Hemant presented the programme.
