Udupi, May 26: The additional deputy commissioner of the district, Sadashiva Prabhu on Wednesday visited the Shirva gram panchayat (GP) and appreciated the tasks undertaken by panchayat administration to contain the spread of Covid– 19.

Shirva gram panchayat had issued strict guidelines to be followed in its limits and the panchayat administration had banned the movement of vehicles in the town. Apart from this, the administration also imposed other rules to contain the spread of infection.

ADC Sadashiva Prabhu took it on him to undertake inspection in the town and during this time found two shop owners flouting Covid guidelines. He also imposed fines on the duo for not wearing masks while conducting their business. The gram panchayat officials also urged the ADC to provide them with officers from the local police force to ensure that lockdown rules were enforced.

During his visit, Prabhu visited the primary health centre at Shirva and obtained details about the vaccination process from the medical officer of the centre, Dr Gayathri.

Speaking with Daijiworld, K R Patkar, president Shirva gram panchayat said, “Panchayat task force and Shirva gram panchayat is ensuring that lockdown is aptly enforced. The aim is to make the town free of infection. ADC Prabhu has appreciated the efforts of the task force. However, due to the shortage of police personnel, it is difficult to achieve successful implementation of the lockdown. The ADC has been informed about this as well,” he said.

Pratibha, Kaup tahsildar, Suresh Shetty, RI Anantha Padmanabha Nayak, PDO, KR Patkar, president, Shirva GP and members of the task force were present during the visit.
