Mangaluru, May 26: A case stands registered against a crowd which allegedly stopped a doctor from performing his duties in a private hospital in the city.
Dr Jayaprakash had attended to his rounds in the hospital and was about to leave between 3 pm-3.30 pm on May 21 when a crowd of about 20 to 25 persons led by Asif stopped him, used filthy language against him and accused him of treating a patient named Jasmine in different hospitals before getting her admitted at last into a government hospital. The crowd accused him of being unable to heal the patient and therefore demanded refund of treatment charges collected so far. It is said that the doctor was held by his collar, jostled around and he was obstructed from performing his duties. A case relating to the incident has been filed in Kadri police station.

Indian Medical Association (IMA) Mangaluru unit has condemned the incident. Its president, Dr Achut Kudva and Association of Medical Consultants (AMC) president, K R Kamath, have condemned the incident and demanded strict action against the accused. They termed the incidents of assault on doctors at a time when they have been working tirelessly day and night to handle Covid cases, as intolerable.
President of Anti-Doctors Harassment Committee, Dr Ganesh Prasad Mudraje, emergency response department's Dr Prakash Harishchandra, IMA secretary, Animesh Jain, AMC secretary Dr Prakash etc have also condemned the incident and sought strict action against the accused.
