Udupi, Aug 19: Pundalik Nayak, veteran photographer and proprietor of Ideal Studio, was honoured with the ‘Chaya Spoorthi Award’ by the Udupi Press Photographers’ Association (UPPA), here on Thursday August 19, on the occasion of World Photographers’ Day.
Local MLA K Raghupati Bhat, after presenting the award to Nayak, said that the state should have recognized Nayak for preserving original black and white pictures of national historical importance, but instead the UPPA has done that task.
Bhat commended Nayak’s professional excellence in preserving the prize worthy picture clicked during the procession that was held during the immersion of the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi at the Arabian Sea in Kaup, near here.
Bhat also sought the copies of such historical pictures to be displayed at the new building of the district headquarters for public viewing.
Nayak, acknowledging the honour, said that he was happy to get an opportunity to display half-a-century-old pictures in his home town. He also conveyed best wishes to his fellow photographers in their endeavours.

UPPA president Hemanath Padubidri welcomed the gathering. Secretary Janardhan Kodavoor compered the programme.
The historically significant pictures taken by Nayak were displayed for public viewing at Ideal Studio.
