Kasargod, Aug 19: The bandh call given by the district committee of People’s Democratic Party on Wednesday August 18 in protest against the arrest of its leader, Abdul Nasser Madani, by the Bangalore police, evoked mixed response in the district.
In some pockets of the district, normal life was thrown out of gear. Incidents of pelting stones at buses, shops and houses, were reported from some places.
Buses of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation were targetted with stones by some miscreants at Poochakkad and Periatadka in the district, on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday night, two shops and a house were damaged in stone pelting incidents.
While the government buses moved about normally, some private buses were off the roads. Autorickshaws, taxies and other vehicles went about their routine without any obstructions. Most of the shops however, were not functioning. The attendance in government offices remained thin, while several schools and colleges were closed for the day.
