Udupi, May 24: “As marriages are becoming a spot for Covid spread in the district, from May 25 onwards, no marriage functions can be held until June 7,” said Udupi deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha.
The DC, who attended a video conference with district in-charge minister Basavaraj Bommai and MLAs of the district on Monday May 24 said, “No permission will be issued for marriages till June 7 in the district. I request people to kindly postpone the weddings scheduled. Many are testing positive after attending weddings. No permission will be given for engagement, mehendi and other functions. Criminal case will be filed if such programmes are held. Case will be filed against those who attend the wedding also.
“Permission for weddings will not be given from tomorrow onwards. Those who have already got permission, can proceed with the function.
“As bakery owners have requested for permission to let them open the shops as there are perishable items, bakeries can be opened on Wednesdays from 6 am to 10 am. Perishable items should be disposed. Only hotels are allowed for parcel. Due to the cyclone, many electrical items of people are destroyed. Due to this, on Wednesday only, shops dealing with electrical items can operate from 6-10 am. Till June 7, vehicles will be seized if unnecessary movement is found,” he said.
The DC also appealed to the public with folded hands that the next 15 days are very vital for everyone’s life. So everyone has to follow the Covid guidelines, he said.
