Brahmavar, May 24: Large scale sea erosion happened near the fisheries road at Manuru Padukere within Kota gram panchayat limits due to the effect has of Tauktae cyclone last week. A huge pile of waste came to the shore with the sea water and remained on the shore when the waves retreated.
A couple has taken upon themselves the task of clearing the solid waste. Krishna Mendon and Shylaja couple from Manuru Padukere took upon themselves the responsibility of clearing this waste. Waste from the sea had been dispersed on a large tract of agricultural land measuring over three acres. The couple began the task of clearing the waste from Sunday May 23.
Because of Covid19 threat, organizations and institutions generally are disinterested in undertaking tasks such as clearing the garbage now. Therefore, the couple has drawn widespread appreciation for volunteering to clear the waste of such a large scale.
About three acres of agricultural land here has been rendered uncultivable because of the saline water and waste which covered the land. Krishna Mendon said that as no one came forward to clear the waste, he and his wife have taken up the task.
