Mangaluru/Udupi, May 23: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday May 23 reported as many as 899 new coronavirus cases and six deaths, while Udupi too reported a spike with 909 fresh cases and four deaths.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 8,27,671 samples have been tested so far, out of which 7,57,332 have turned out to be negative.
The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 70,339, out of which 10,395 are currently active.
As many as 873 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 59,084.
The district recorded six deaths due to coronavirus on Sunday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 860, out of which four are non-Covid deaths.
With cases steadily increasing, the district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.
So far, the district administration has collected a whopping Rs 58,82,030 as fine in 56,309 incidents of mask violation.
Udupi
As per the district health bulletin, as many as 5,66,549 samples have been tested so far.
As many as 909 new cases were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 52,661, out of which 5,773 are currently active.
A total of 1,197 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 39,668.
Out of 909 new patients, 889 are in home isolation while 20 are in Covid-designated hospitals.
Among the 909, as many as 723 are asymptomatic.
While Udupi taluk reported 486 of the 909 cases, Kundapur recorded 273, Karkala 148, and two from outside the district.
Coronavirus has claimed 302 lives in the district so far, including four on Sunday. Among those who died on Sunday are three men from Udupi and one from Kundapur.
Till now, 2,05,597 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 73,879 have received the second dose.
