Mangaluru, May 22: The government has found 782 cases of encroachment of government land in Dakshina Kannada district. The district is preparing to take strict action against the guilty. Out of these, the encroachment has been cleared in 431 cases and the district administration is determined to evict the other encroachers too from the government land.
As per information, 2,467.37 acres of land in 782 cases has been encroached. Out of this, 1,051.55 acres of land in 351 cases has been cleared. Out Of the total identified so far, 521.89 acres of land in Mangaluru taluk (163 cases) 262 acres in 148 cases cleared), Bantwal 139.21acres in 87 cases (42 acres in 29 cases cleared), Moodbidri 34.54 acres in18 cases (3 acres in four cases cleared), Kadaba 371 cases 1,177.78 acres (132 cases 888.44 acres cleared)), Mulky 13.13 acres in 22 cases (3 acres in 4 cases cleared) have been identified. In Sullia taluk, a total of 110 cases encroaching 366.47 acres of land have been identified but none of these lands have been vacated.

At the same time, all the encroachments in Puttur and Beltangady taluks have been cleared, the district administration stated. In Puttur, 101.18 acres in 34 cases and 113.17 acres in 77 cases in Beltangady have been vacated.
The district administration undertook this exercise because of the shortage of land for undertaking different projects. Deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V, said that the programme of recovering the government land back from the encroachers is being vigorously followed but at the moment, the programme has been hit because of the widespread coronavirus infection.
